I'd guess this beautiful hand-tooled leather chain of sorts was once part of some sort of animal harness

Good condition with a few minor dings

so would think this dates to the first quarter of the 20th c

embodying a whole semester's worth of work by a young Marianne Prichard it seems

and dated 1970
