Since finding this one I've hunted around online and found just a couple of images of other 19th c round-ish slates

) I love the heart shape of it

though I don't think that is actually the case

Executed in hand dyed wool, with petit point (tiny stitches) used for the face of the boy (with excellent pinked cheeks.) And quite the little master he appears, waving his whip overhead but clearly his very sweet looking giant dog companion could trounce him if desired, so I take this as a portrait of mis guided youthful hubris! 8 1 2" x 7 3 4" framed;
