Lignum Vitae Wassail Bowl tripod Earls of Lauderdale prior toLignum vitae wassail bowl, c. 1690. Wassail bowls were used as vessels in which revelers dropped cakes and bread into the practice of floating chips of toasted bread is where the salutation for a "Toast" began. Lignum is a hard and dense wood with natural oils which are ideal for turning on a lather. This particular bowl has wonderful aging it has suffered and survived and come out even more interesting than when it was first turned. Ht. 7", Dia. 8"
