Mack was the first 10th grader to play varsity basketball at Mount Pleasant where he had an outstanding career. He also played baseball there as well. Mack attended the University of Michigan from 1947 1950 where he was a four year starter. He was the first freshman to make "All Big Nine" (MSU was not yet in league) and the first player to make "All Big Nine Big Ten" for four
