I believe this harpoon dart would have been used for whaling

and most definitely worthy of putting in a frame
evoking all the romanticism of working through the night by candlelight--and with that great looping line among the ink bottles and pen nib seemingly added just for flourish

Woodington Township, NC, 1896 R I believe this harpoon dartI always have an eye out for hand drawn maps, but it is a rare and happy moment to find one with watercolor embellishment, and what a charmer, with big red and green compass rose star with pointing arrows and feathers, excellent inked handwriting, hand pointing to the corner of Lightwood Knot Road, and long hatched railroad, too!
