woven and wrapped around the handles with what I believe is a waxed thread

topped with pinkish-red fabric which may be silk

there is wear and some tearing around the corners of the backing sheet

Gorgeous Heavy 20 inch Fat Iron Chain colored rock painting This tool has seen someThis is not my typical sort of find, but this old iron chain is simply gorgeous, and I could not not bring it home with me. It weighs about 3 1 2 pounds, and the iron is a really rich charcoal black, in spectacular condition; to me, it reads as pure sculpture. It's definitely got age, showing some wear where the links overlap, just right. I'm not sure what its original use would have been, but certainly it would hold a great weight. Just shy of 20"
