these I believe were carved of walnut and made to use as vesta (match holders)

I also like that—clearly instructed to fold their hands—they did so in different ways

say-- from paper tags to air mail labels and everything in between

And it was certainly an inventive and resourceful woman who made this one

I don't come across hand carved heart shaped boxes like this very often, and when I do they are quite precious. I love the curvaceousness o this one, and the heart inside of heart inside of heart staining. This one came of of the personal collection of a New England dealer, from whom I also purchased the story of Witenose the Cat!
