I believe it was a cast iron foot from an old bathtub that was turned upside down

16 1/8" t x 6 1/8" w x 5" deep

this excellent old solid brass one bearing a perfectly rendered hourglass

When I got home I was surprised, and delighted, to find that they are quite early ones the Pennsylvania newspapers they were cut from bear the year 1856, and one of the newspapers is in German, so these are Pennsylvania German indeed.
