With the fairly faint outlines (impressed) of a doghouse or barn visible on the brown ground just behind the dog

this very fine Northwest Coast Salish tightly coiled lidded basket dates I believe from the late 19th or early 20th century

with a bit of stain visible along left edge and some old glue staining (not sticky) around the edges of the reverse side

the exaggerated hands with individuated fingers

with the main frame a sort of mellowed oxblood and the decorative frame a very mellow gold
