Old Painted Wooden Field Decoy (with Lots of Shot Marks) matte glaze I believe one or perhaps

I believe one or perhaps two legs have been cut away on one end (see detail photos) and there is light wear and aging to the wood plus a few tiny white marks that appear to be paint splatters

It seems a bit more like ceramic than plaster (and is quite heavy)

and the painting perfectly preserved) but for a thin split in the wood on the bottom--visible only when opened or turned upside down

with a small scratch to the surface of one of one of the lighter swallows

Quite a compelling little carving

Im not an expert but think it might represent an American Oystercatcher with its bright yellow eyes and long beak, black head and white belly. All the better for the twist of old wire still attached to one side, which was threaded rather beautifully through three nailed loops. 14 1 2" long measured straight from tip of beak to tail;
