A 19th c papier snuff box I believe, well worn, but lovely still perhaps just right for stashing silver dollars, or silver earrings! The black surface appears more like paint than lacquer, and the silver decoration adhered rather than painted on. 2 3 4" in diameter. General wear and a bit of loss around the lip of the bottom half, pretty minor and not visible when closed.
