In the CAE model, pharmacological inhibition of citrullination is a potent suppressor of inflammatory demyelination after an immune stimulation, in the absence of any direct anti-inflammatory effect by the inhibitors themselves, indicating that proteins modified in this manner can be potent antigenic targets (Caprariello et al., 2018)
